Our Bonsai Japan Tour has been designed to let bonsai enthusiasts fully enjoy their passion while discovering Japan. The below itinerary is an example and it can be customized to perfectly fit you. You will visit some of Japan’s most prestigious bonsai nurseries at Omiya bonsai village near Tokyo and its unique Omiya Bonsai Museum. If the dates of your trip are matching we will arrange a visit the Kokufu Bonsai Ten or other bonsai event.

Our Bonsai Japan Tour gives you a fantastic chance to see some of the finest bonsai in the world. It starts in Tokyo with a day trip to Omiya before exploring the town of Tokoname famous for its pottery and particularly bonsai pot production. You will then travel by Shinkansen Bullet train and visit the magnificent temples and gardens of Kyoto such as Kinkaku-ji, Daitoku-ji featured in our video, the unique Hoshun-in bonsai gallery… Wander around World Heritage sites in Nara and then travel to Osaka where you will visit bonsai nurseries like Yoshoen and Fujikawa Kouka-en which is great because you might get a chance to talk to international apprentices while they work on fantastic bonsai.

Cycling Lake Biwa & Kyoto

This tour is an invitation to enjoy cycling and discover rural Japan at your own pace around Lake Biwa near Kyoto. Firstly this journey will start in Kyoto. The ancient capital offers countless attractions that you will explore with a private local guide. Then on the third day, you will take the direction of lake Biwa, the largest Japanese lake. You will pick up your bicycles for a 5-day self-guided ride. We can reserve almost any kind of bicycle, so talk to your Japan Travel Expert for more details. On your first cycling day

You will firstly start by exploring Omi-Hachiman and its traditional merchant town. Then you will stop in Hikone, famous for its well-preserved Castle. Next, you will reach Maibara where you will pick up your bicycles. Your first cycling day will be an easy 11 km (7 miles) bicycle ride up to Nagahama where you will board for a cruise to visit the sacred Island of Chikubushima, known to be a source of great spiritual energy on lake Biwa.

Second cycling day

You will follow the eastern shore of the lake up to Kinomoto where you will have dinner and spend the night. It’s a 35 km (about 21 miles) ride. Cycle at your own pace through beautiful natural scenery and rural landscapes: stunning lake views, vast rice fields, discover ancient Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples.

Third cycling day

Visit hidden Lake Yogo, known as the “mirror lake”, and enjoy the view from Shizugatake hill-top. Then you will head for Sugaura a picturesque lakeside village with a rich local history where you will rest for the night.


For the fourth cycling day

Take it easy! Omimaiko Beach is the most famous one with white sand and groves of shady pines.

Final day on the saddle

An easy ride to Omi-Maiko where you drop off your bicycles. The ride is about 22 km long (13 miles). Don’t miss the Shirahige Shrine Torii gate it’s a must in the region! You will then take a train to go back to Kyoto.

Additionally this tour is a chance to appreciate spectacular views and traditional Japanese architecture. Meet local people, taste regional cuisine, and stay at a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn).

Seto Inland Sea Tour

Take this journey as an invitation to discover the beauty of traditional Japan and the less touristy island of Shodoshima. Starting in Osaka and then heading to Miyajima, Hiroshima, Kurashiki,… you will appreciate the Japanese culture and spirituality. Cycling and Sightseeing Tour

The journey starts in Tokyo; the seat of the Japanese government since the Edo Period (1603 to 1868). On the second day of your trip, a Private Local Guide will show you around the largest city in the world. Tokyo is a vibrant metropolis overflowing with many fascinating sights, sounds, and experiences for you to enjoy. During your trip, you may wish to visit some of the different neighborhoods like Akihabara, Shinjuku, Ginza, Harajuku, Shibuya, and the like.

Kanazawa & Takayama via Shirakawa-go

You will then head to Kanazawa by Shinkansen Bullet Train. Kanazawa presents historical attractions such as restored samurai residences and geisha districts, as well as modern museums. Kanazawa’s most popular attraction is Kenrokuen, one of Japan’s “three best landscape gardens” and by many considered the most beautiful one. The next day, after breakfast you will take a bus to Takayama via Shirakawa-go to see a well-preserved merchant street and morning market.

Hot Spring Ryokan

Then you will travel to Gero Onsen where you will stay at a Hot Spring Ryokan. Your ryokan will serve you a traditional kaiseki dinner and you will relax in their hot spring baths. Once you are completely relaxed you will head to Osaka known as the kitchen of Japan and its friendly people. To discover Japan more in-depth we invite you for a bicycle ride from the center of Osaka to Minoh and its beautiful forest where you might find wild monkeys.

Kyoto

Your next destination will be Kyoto, the imperial capital. Here you will explore the streets where the emperor and other aristocrats played and worshiped. For your second day in Kyoto, a Private Local Guide will pick you up at your hotel and show you the best sites in Kyoto. Then you will take a day trip to Nara which was the first capital of Japan. Next, you will ride bicycles around Lake Biwa near Kyoto to discover this rural area at your own pace. You will then head back to Tokyo to prepare for your flight home.

Hiroshima, Shimanami & Shikoku

Shimanami Kaido - From Honshu to Shikoku by bicycle

Firstly explore the seaside town of Tomonoura and UNESCO World Heritage island Miyajima (famous for its friendly deer and the iconic ‘floating’ Torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine), walk through the emotional history of Hiroshima and timeless hilltop communities of Onomichi. Then from here, continue on with our version of the varied and scenic island-hopping cycling course Shimanami Kaido.

Pass over the Setouchi Inland Sea visiting remote islands, which together with deliciously fresh seafood cuisine, offer a uniquely modern cafe culture, before arriving in Ehime prefecture on Shikoku Island; the perfect entry point of our 4-day Shikoku 88 Pilgrimage tour. As Japan’s fourth-largest island, Shikoku is home to some of the country’s most spectacular and undeveloped scenery.

The island is also the setting for an ancient walking trail, the challenging Shikoku 88 Pilgrimage. The trail connects 88 Buddhist temples and the full walk covers more than a thousand kilometers. Pilgrims, known as O-henro, traditionally covered the journey on foot over many weeks, staying overnight at Shukubo temple lodgings. Most modern travelers now travel from temple to temple by tour bus, but we have found sections of the original route which can still be enjoyed on foot.

Coast to Coast Japan Tour

Our Coast to Coast Japan Tour will bring you along the Seto Inland Sea. First you will visit the traditional town of Kurashiki and then move to Naoshima famous for modern art. Later you will be going North to explore less touristy sights such as Matsue, Kinosaki Onsen, or Ine. Best of Northern Japan

This unique tour will lead you to the most beautiful spots of Tohoku (Northern Japan). You will first start in Tokyo and soon head to Nikko. Nikko’s colorful shrines and temples and its national park offer visitors a wonderful combination of both Japanese history and natural beauty.

The next day to will take a train to Aizu-Wakamatsu. This castle town is well known for its sake and samurai tradition because the Aizu clan remained loyal to the shogun even after the feudal leader was removed from power during the Meiji Restoration in 1868. While staying in Aizu-Wakamatsu we suggest you visit Ouchijuku a beautiful post town, Tsuruga Castle and Aizu Bukeyashiki (a large reconstructed samurai house), Suehiro Sake Brewery,… During the last day of your stay in Aizu-Wakamatsu, you will explore the beautiful and off-the-beaten-path area of Urabandai by charter taxi. The taxi drivers are very knowledgeable and can introduce you to the tasty food spots that only locals know about.

Your next destination will be Matsushima to appreciate one of the most beautiful views of the country. After breakfast, you will head to the mysterious temple of Yamadera. Today’s highlight after climbing about 1000 steps will be the Godaido Hall. After some good sleep, you will then head to Ginzan Onsen to rest in its hot spring baths. Best of Kyushu

This once-in-a-lifetime tour combines the best of Kyushu giving you a chance to explore fully the island and its culture from Fukuoka down south to Amami Oshima. You will first rent a car and head to Kurokawa Onsen to relax in a ryokan (traditional inn) with a hot spring bath and a gourmet dinner. The next day you will face nature on its wildest side around Mt Aso volcano.

Then it will be time to discover the legends of Takachiho Gorge before stopping in Kumamoto and witness the reconstruction of its famous castle. Later you will head to Kagoshima where stands Sakurajima (one of Japan’s most active volcanoes). After breakfast in Kagoshima, you will visit Chiran Samurai District. This town preserved houses and gardens that are about 250 years old. Next, you will head to Ibusuki for a black-sand spa.

Kamikochi

This stunning alpine region, preserved in its natural state, is home to Mt. Hotadake and Mt. Yakedake, the latter of which is an active volcano, as well as several lakes. Vehicles are not allowed the area part of Chubu Sangaku National Park, so it offers the rare opportunity to see some of Japan’s beautiful natural scenery in its original, pristine state.


Matsumoto

Matsumoto, formerly a castle town and now a bustling, modern city, is located in Nagano Prefecture, in the Chubu region of Japan. The most famous site in Matsumoto is its stunning feudal era castle, which is a national treasure and one of the few remaining castles from that period in Japanese history. It is set atop a hill and its walls are black, making for a stunning spectacle. While in Matsumoto we invite you to try tasty soba noodles and locally grown wasabi.
