Taste the best of Hokkaido Cuisine!
Sapporo Beer Museum:
The museum presents the history of beer in Japan and explains how to brew it. The first Japanese beer was first prepared in Sapporo. Of course at the end of the visit it is possible to enjoy some beer tasting. In 1890 the Sapporo Beer Brewery was established though the museum was created in 1987. This museum has 3 floors and the entrance is free of charge. Near the museum there is a restaurant where you can enjoy your beer with some grilled lamb.
Sapporo Ramen Noodles:
Sapporo is known for its own take on ramen noodles which everyone should try at least one in their lives. The best place to try them is in Susukino near Susukino Station and the best place within Susukino is Ramen Yokocho. If ramen is not your thing then there are tons of other restaurants in this area.
Seafood:
If you visit Hokkaido, its fresh seafood is a must. Even Japanese people visiting the region say that they’ve never enjoyed such fatty salmon, shining ikura (salmon roe), and succulent sea urchin. That’s how much they’re impressed by the freshness and flavor. Why is Hokkaido seafood so delicious? One reason is the plankton-rich Oyashio Current flowing through the Pacific Ocean near Hokkaido, which nourishes fish with plentiful nutrition. Next is the low temperature of the water that’s toning muscle tissue and helping add layers of fat. Come and taste by yourself the outstanding quality of Hokkaido seafood.
Jingisukan:
The name Jingisukan might remind you of the name of the famous Mongolian king, Genghis Khan. It is believed that this barbecue lamb dish used to be popular in the time of war where Mongolian soldiers used their metal hat as a barbecue pan. Now we prepare Jingisukan on a convex metal skillet. Lamb used to be grown all over Japan but in most regions sheep farms have been demolished; except in Hokkaido. Hokkaido people even figured out a way to get rid of the bad smell in lamb. Hence, the Hokkaido Jingisukan is the most delicate and delicious lamb dish of all.
